Americas CourierWhat we demand and what our customers expect became our driver training, where our emphasis is on communication, communication, communication. From order taken and entered, to dispatching, to driver contact, to delivery completion. Constant communication. Throw in state of the art courier software and snazzy uniforms, and our service rocks. Our driver retention is proof of a satisfied, therefore, productive driver. And everyone’s happy.

Before our drivers take to the streets, they must pass our inspection. They must excel at a written exam and complete a thorough map test. We will not have a driver rely solely on GPS. They are trained to be HIPAA compliant regarding patient privacy rights. Drivers are also trained to OSHA standards on medical returns and specimen handling. Rubber gloves, spill kits and coolers are issued to all drivers. Drivers are trained to maintain a segregated area for medical returns. They are trained in the handling of Sharps containers, chemo waste and biohazard bags.

Testing of drivers is done right after orientation and training session to insure a complete understanding. Our drivers do not commence delivery unprepared. In the event something arises that they are unsure of, they can refer to their training manual that they are required to keep with them. Or they can take the easy route and just call dispatch at anytime! Our drivers and our customers always speak with an employee, never an answering service. Through daily interactions with the drivers, our vendor coordinator addresses training or operational issues immediately and resolves them at once. Weekly communications are included with driver settlement sheets.

As a standard, we conduct DMV reports, criminal background checks, fingerprinting and drug screening on all drivers and employees. These are simply investments in securing the right people. Our drivers not only represent America’s Courier, but your company as well. All drivers are uniformed in an America’s Courier shirt or jacket and display visible photo ID. No sandals or flip-flops. All clothing must be in new or like new condition. And we periodically do site checks on our drivers to make certain these most important aspects of our program are adhered to.

Americas CourierSo how did we get to where we are? When our “core team” sat down together five years ago and began charting our direction, we had over 90 years of combined experience in distribution. More importantly, we all had been couriers, vendors, drivers, delivery person…whichever moniker you prefer, and we all understood the streets and the demands. In addition, we all have owned or currently own our own businesses, and understand what it takes to run a business the right way. Our collective experiences spared us from enduring the usual start up pains. We concurred that anyone can duplicate what kind of works. We set out to provide outstanding delivery service at a fair price to our customers. Pay the drivers well, they will produce and service will improve. We’re proof that our model works.
